Samsung has (or rather had) a fairly popular series of flagship Galaxy Note smartphones with a large screen and a built-in stylus. Last year, the company decided to focus only on the Galaxy S series, borrowing a key feature from its phablet. But other manufacturers decided to repeat the chip with a stylus in the smartphone, and quite successfully. For example, the Moto G Stylus came out two years ago and became one of Motorola’s best-selling smartphones, and now TCL has a similar device.
The TCL Stylus 5G is perhaps the first attempt at a budget alternative to the Galaxy Note. It has a large IPS screen that allows you to comfortably draw, take notes or just watch videos. The display features blue light protection and NXTVISION technology, which can upscale SDR content to HDR, improving contrast and saturation in both movies and games.

Since this is an entry-level smartphone, its characteristics are appropriate. The device is built on the Mediatek platform and, unlike many flagship models, still has a microSD card slot and a 3.5 mm jack for a wired headset. The TCL Stylus 5G main camera unit includes as many as four modules with a 50 MP main sensor.
As for the stylus, here it is stored inside the body of the device in a special slot, like the Galaxy Note. TCL offers a feature similar to Samsung Screen Off that allows you to take notes without having to unlock your smartphone. It is also possible to activate commands with special gestures. For example, to quickly take a screenshot, just draw a character on the screen. Buyers are offered free subscriptions to the Nebo and MyScript Calculator apps, which let you convert handwritten notes or formulas into typed text. The stylus in the Stylus 5G is passive (capacitive), so it cannot be used as a remote camera control tool or a presentation remote control.
