One day after a teacher from the Southern Caixa (RS) municipal school system was stabbed by two students inside a school, the president of the City Municipal Servers Union, Silvana Piroli, said that the attack performed is the result of the “disrespect” and the “lack of authority” of teachers inside the classroom.
The unionist’s statement was given during an ordinary session of the Caxias do Sul City Council on Wednesday (2).
According to Silvana, the episode showed a “recurring” situation in schools: “violence, disrespect, lack of authority that we sometimes have in the room. Not because we have no authority, but because they take the right to exercise teacher authority.”
“And I say this because it’s not from today. We are gradually being disrespected in our profession. And disrespect says when anyone can, at any time, say how we have to teach, how we have to do it,” he added.
The president of the union has classified that the attack “is not an isolated fact.”
“I can no longer listen to colleagues with mine with the scratched car, spoiled car. Principal that is in school and the father goes there and curses, threat and the teacher who loses the place at school that is near his home and with the student happens nothing and with his father much less.
Silvana also cited the weakening of the Guardianship Council. “When the Guardianship Council started, and I was a teacher, we told the parents that I would call the Guardianship Council and they trembled everything, they brought the students and managed. Today, the Guardianship Council, with two in the city, is as if it did not exist. So, you have to have more tutelary advice and have to improve.”
About the episode that occurred the day before, the trade unionist defended “due process of law”. “In the case of yesterday’s adolescents, parents and guardians have to be penalized. It doesn’t give. Because if it won’t turn around. I don’t want to come here every week to make an outburst speech, because it doesn’t solve my life or yours.”
Marta Fattori’s municipal secretary of education, then spoke in the same session and cited improvements that, according to her, were recently made in the municipal network. She also sympathized with the attacked teacher.
“In a huge support, with great sadness, I sympathize with Professor Thaís, who yesterday, bravely, she, in her teaching doing inside the school, was stabbed in the back. And that we can’t allow.”
As was the case
Two teenagers, 14 and 15, were seized last Tuesday (1st) after stabbing an English teacher within the João de Zorzi Municipal Elementary School.
The two teenagers fled after the attack. They were found by the Military Brigade in a thicket near the school and seized. The pair was taken to the Socio-Educational Care Foundation (Phase).
Another 13 -year -old teenager was seized, but was released after giving testimony. According to Caxias do Sul Regional Delegate, Augusto Cavalheiro Neto, the release occurred because, at the moment, there is no certainty that she participated directly in the act.
For the Civil Police, there is evidence that the attack was premeditated, because the suspects would have damaged a security camera inside the classroom before assaulted the teacher.
