After three students were stabbed by a classmate at a municipal school in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Mayor Eduardo Paes said that a teacher prevented the attacker, a 14-year-old student, from continuing the attacks.
“The teacher prevented the worst. Thanks to the teacher’s courage, the other students left the classroom without anything worse happening. He used a chair to immobilize the boy,” said Paes, who visited the unit shortly after the incident.
Regarding security in the units of the municipal network, the chief executive evaluated it as an “atypical case”, and stated that education professionals are oriented to report possible changes in behavior.
“We cannot transform the (school) network into a prison. This follow-up that teachers do is fundamental. The workers had already noticed an atypical behavior, and the case was already being followed up in a psychosocial care offered by the municipality”, he added.

According to the PM, on the morning of this Friday (06), teams from the 17th BPM were called to the Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes School, on Ilha do Governador, for an occurrence of three students injured by knife blows, by another student. .
According to the Fire Department, the victims were taken to the Evandro Freire Municipal Hospital, which is five minutes away from the school.
The PM also informed that it has reinforced patrols in the region and that it will keep a vehicle on standby at the scene, to ensure the safety of todos.es

According to the delegate responsible for the investigations, Marcus Henrique, from the 37th DP, the student’s family stated that he had been showing a change in behavior and that the teenager was already being accompanied by psychologists.
“He suffered an injury to his hands, was taken to the hospital and will then be taken to the police station to investigate the motivation of this crime. At first there is no confirmation about episodes of bullying, but everything will be duly clarified in the investigations, ”he said.
In a note, the Municipal Education Department reported that “the injured students received care at the school by a SAMU team and were taken to the Evandro Freire municipal hospital with minor injuries. The three injured children are stable.”
