Teachers give tips on what to do on the eve of the Enem to succeed in the test

The first stage of National High School Exam (Enem) will be applied this Sunday (13) throughout Brazil. In this edition, 3,396,632 students will take the test that enables entry into universities. Preparation in advance is important, however, teachers point out last-minute techniques that can help students do even better.

The geography teacher Marcus Oliveira, from the Perfect Study Guide (GEP), spoke to CNN about the main strategies of those who were successful in the Enem.

He highlights the importance of “mind maps” as a review tool. Mind maps are schemes that encompass the main themes of each discipline and are easily found on the internet.

“Thinking about the strategies of those who were successful, it is recommended to do a quick and calm review on the most important topics of that first day. Take, for example, Geography mind maps. The most recurrent topics are: environmental impacts, agriculture, globalization and economy”, he explains.

“Considering these topics, you can get some mind maps that we see on the internet, students who share on the internet, to take a look at these topics. This could also be repeated in languages and in other humanities disciplines, such as history, philosophy and sociology. It is interesting to use this as a strategy”, adds Oliveira.

On what not to do on the eve of the test, the teacher reiterates that this is not the time to learn something new, to study a subject that you have never seen.

“It can cause despair, worry, fear. It reviews those content that historically falls the most, as it is a lot, selects the top three that fall the most, takes a quick look, no more than 30 minutes, looking at a mental map on environmental impacts, that would already be an incredible strategy”, said the teacher.

“The Enem test is not just a content test, it is a strategy test that also assesses your emotions, so staying focused on this challenge is a big secret”, he added.

correction manual

Enem has very objective correction criteria, and these criteria can be found in the correction manual from Inep (Anísio Teixeira National Institute of Educational Studies and Research). This manual is delivered by Enem to brokers, as explained by the writing teacher of the Poliedro Guarulhos course and of the Parthenon College, Pedro Muller.

“For example, 1/5 of your grade is a criterion called an intervention proposal, which is to present a solution to the problem. Most newsrooms don’t ask for this, so the unsuspecting student can write an essay and forget to put it in, or they can put it in, but not in the way that Inep asks”, explains Muller.

According to the professor, Inep has five criteria for the intervention proposal: “there must be action, agent, means, purpose and detail. What I would say is for the student to look for the manuals and pay attention to these objective criteria”, he says.

This is an important tip, the student goes after the correction criteria. According to writing teacher Isabel Sodré, from Descomplica, a good text strategy includes reading and studying well-evaluated essays.

“On the eve of the test, the Enem publishes the participant’s booklet, where we find some very good essays, with maximum grades, with the comments of the board saying why that essay was well evaluated or not. A good study strategy is to learn to write good texts, reading good texts, good argumentative dissertations”.
