Teachers in the city of Bahia have a salary adjustment of just R$0.46, says union

Some of the teachers in the municipal network of Dias D'Ávila, in the metropolitan region of Salvador (BA), received a salary adjustment of R$0.46, according to the Union of Education Workers of the State of Bahia (APLB). The Dias d'Ávila City Council approved the measure on April 5th and the project was sanctioned on the same day by the mayor of the municipality, Alberto Pereira Castro.

According to the union, the smallest adjustment approved will be in the amount of R$0.46 and the largest in R$1,396.33. The salary increase of just R$0.46 would have been directed to teachers considered Level 1 (letter A) who work in the municipal education network.

Wanted by CNN , Dias d'Ávila City Hall stated that the measure is not a salary increase, but a correction. According to the agency, of the 397 teachers in the municipal network, only two had their salaries adjusted by R$0.46.

According to the union that represents education professionals in the city, the sector was not called or invited to attempt to negotiate the adjustment amount with public management. The association claims to know the criteria that were used by municipal management to change the job and salary table.

The other adjustments approved for teachers in the city were:

  • Special teachers (without training) – adjustment of R$ 1,396.33;
  • Level 1 teachers, from Letter B (graduates) – adjustment from R$137 to R$1,396.63;
  • Level 2 teachers (specialists) – adjustment from R$45.81 to R$311.55;
  • Level 3 teachers (masters and doctors) – adjustment from R$ 105.76 to R$ 138.00.

A CNN He sought out the city's City Council for a position regarding the approval of salary adjustments, but until the publication of this text, he had received no response.
