The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, informed that, on Wednesday (26) the Budget Execution Board (JEO) should discuss the release of extraordinary credits to fight fires in the Pantanal and the Amazon.

According to the minister, the Ministries of the Environment, Defense, Regional Development, Transport and other departments intend to present the additional costs that will be necessary for the JEO analysis.

Tebet stated that ministries are already using their budgets in relation to the situation and that they are still mapping out which expenses should exceed their limits. Planning has not yet received any requests and has no information about the size of the credit.

On the occasion, the minister reinforced that “there will be no shortage of resources from the federal government” to help these regions. According to her, the budgetary space for extraordinary credit will be “what is necessary to resolve the environmental issue”.

According to her, credits are possible based on environmental emergency decrees. The funds will help hire brigade members and fighters and obtain water.

“Of course this impacts the primary, of course it has a budgetary consequence, but it allows us to spend what is necessary, responsibly”, said the minister. “We are talking about values much lower than those in Rio Grande do Sul, infinitely lower, especially because it is a very specific and localized issue there.”

The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, stated that the government is “acting carefully with public finances”, but that there is “greater care for the biome”.

On Friday (28), Tebet, Marina and other ministers intend to visit the municipality of Corumbá (MS) to analyze the impacts of the fires. The decision took place after a “situation room” meeting at Palácio do Planalto, this afternoon, where the Minister of Regional Development, Waldez Góes, also participated.
