Technology sector grows more than 60% during the pandemic, study shows

The information technology sector was the one that grew the most during the pandemic in Latin America, according to a study obtained by the CNN and made by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and LinkedIn. The sector recorded an increase of more than 60% in the hiring rate compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Daniela Tessler, senior human resources executive, explained that this result is because the home-office presented a need for companies for qualified IT professionals who can assess the company’s objectives, “indicating the software and hardware so that they work as expected. ”.

Cristiano Oliveira, responsible for training at Trend, a company that trains IT professionals, told CNN that for a course with 20 places, an average of 130 people are interviewed.

Ian Marques, cloud security engineer, also stated that the technology area will continue to grow and “there will be no shortage of vacancies in this market” due to new innovations, such as electric cars, “which will need some security”.

Other sectors

Admissions had a significant shrinkage at the beginning of the pandemic. LinkedIn’s hire rate hit its lowest level in April 2020 – a 70% drop from January of the same year. And, until September 2021, it was still lower than the amount of hiring carried out before the arrival of the coronavirus.

The education and tourism sectors were the most affected by the pandemic and have not yet returned to the level of February 2020.

The study looked at hiring that took place before, during and after the pandemic.
