Traditional telephoto lenses in smartphone cameras mostly have optical image stabilization (OIS), as zooming adds jitter and makes it harder to shoot. This technique works well for static objects, but when you have to focus on moving objects, it tends to only increase the shaking. Tecno claims that its engineers have come up with a solution to the problem by using a system of two prisms instead of one.
The technology is called Eagle Eye Lens, and it’s the first such system for a telephoto lens. Each prism in it can rotate along one axis – one by ± 8 °, the other by ± 10 °. By combining two prisms, the camera can automatically track an object within ±16° on one axis and ±20° on the other. The video below shows how this system works:
Tecno technology supports optical stabilization, correcting movements within a range of ±6°. Both OIS and object tracking are done automatically using AI algorithms. Eagle Eye Lens works in both photo and video mode, thus providing the best image quality. The company claims that its development will be useful, for example, during races – you can take clear photos or shoot smooth video of cars passing by.
The company said it is currently working on premium smartphones with Eagle Eye technology, which will debut next year.
