Teen throws bleach at Oregon farm, killing 18,000 salmon

Nearly 200 controlled-environment baby salmon rearing programs dot Oregon's rivers, holding them in tanks before releasing them into the wild to complete their life cycle. Last week, a man broke into one such Winchester Bay salmon trout enhancement program and poured bleach into a Chinook salmon tank, killing about 18,000 fish. Authorities arrested Joshua Alexander Heckathorn, 20, of Gardiner, Oregon, on April 23, a day after the chemicals were dumped in one of the farm ponds. He told officers he had visited a storage area the day before and picked up a bottle of bleach, according to a Facebook post from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
