Teenager sentenced to life in prison after killing 13-year-old classmate

A 16-year-old teenager was sentenced to life in prison this Friday (24) for stabbing a 13-year-old girl with more than 100 blows. The crime took place in 2021 in Florida, United States.

Aiden Fucci confessed to the crime in February of this year during a hearing designed to begin jury selection for his trial. At the time of the crime, Fucci was 14 years old. The victim was a classmate of his. Fucci responded to the crime as an adult.

In sentencing, Judge R. Lee Smith said he took into account several factors in making his decision, including Fucci’s young age, the “high level” of premeditation and that he was the sole participant in the crime, not having, he said, , been pressured by no one to commit the “devastating crime”. He noted that Fucci was considered of “average maturity” by his peers and that he understood the consequences of his actions.

The victim, added the magistrate, “suffered a painful and horrible death from someone she trusted”. “The loss you clearly suffered is unimaginable,” the judge told the murdered girl’s family and friends. “Sometimes family members hope or hope that whatever the sentence is, one way or another it will heal or close.”

“I can’t put an end to this,” he continued. “That might close a chapter, but I can’t bring her back,” the judge mused.

Fucci’s defense will have 30 days to appeal the sentence if it so chooses.

The crime

The girl’s body was found on May 9, 2021, after her family reported her missing earlier in the day. She was stabbed 114 times and suffered 49 injuries to her head, hands and arms, according to the state’s attorney.

The prosecutor claimed that Fucci told witnesses that he intended to stab someone to death in the woods. Furthermore, Fucci’s DNA was found on the girl’s body, second report by CNN in season.
