Three teenagers from the state of Florida are accused of kidnapping crypto -investor and the theft of cryptocurrencies and non -replaceable tokens (NFT) totaling $ 4 million.
The attack occurred in November last year-after the man left the event in Las Vegas dedicated to cryptocurrencies. When he returned to his residential complex and parked the car, three teenagers attacked him, threatening with a gun.
The attackers forced the man to sit in the back seat of his car and threw a towel over his head so that he would not see the face of the abductors. The criminals threatened the reprisal against the man himself and his father – if the abducted does not give the kidnappers passwords from his cryptocurrency wallets. During the abduction, the abductors received instructions on the speakerphone from another person, the victim later said.
The kidnappers took the victim to the city of White Hills state of Arizona, more than 70 miles from Las Vegas. They threw the victim in the desert and disappeared. The man managed to go five miles to the gas station, where he was able to seek help.
The police tracked the suspicious car, which was traveling from Florida to Nevada. And then she detained three suspects, including 16-year-old residents of Florida Belal Ashraf and Austin Fletcher. The name of the third teenager is not named.
All three charges of theft, abduction and extortion are charged. The juvenile court said that, given the severity of the alleged crimes, Ashraf and Fletcher will be convicted as adults. During the hearing in the case of Fletcher on May 9, the prosecutor’s office said that the third teenager was no longer in the United States. Fletcher’s lawyer sought for his client house, but the court appointed a high collateral for this – $ 4 million. Ashraf was exempted under electronic observation.
