Two 17-year-olds from Canada stole $4 million in bitcoin and ether from a US citizen, posing as support workers for the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange.

The investigation involved the FBI and the US Secret Service’s Electronic Crime Investigation Team (ECTF). The police suspect that in this way, teenagers could steal another $13.4 million in cryptocurrency.

The attackers used the pseudonyms Felon (“Criminal”) and Gaze (“Look”). They used part of the stolen funds to buy the @zombie Instagram account. The teenagers have now been arrested. They are charged with theft of money, as well as possession of property or proceeds from property obtained by criminal means.

In June, hackers managed to steal nearly $93 million in crypto around the world, according to analytics firm PeckShield in its monthly report. In total, hackers committed 42 hacks.

Recently, a Bill’s Cost Supermarket employee was arrested in the US for stealing cash to buy bitcoins, and in Texas, a group of attackers tried to steal a crypto ATM.
