Since the creation of Telegram, the project has been mainly funded by its founder Pavel Durov. But as the messenger developed and expanded its audience, the company began to look for ways to monetize the platform. Last year, Telegram began testing sponsored messages (ads) in public channels that have more than 1,000 subscribers. Now the developers are preparing another monetization tool – additional features on a paid basis.
Recently, the beta version of Telegram 8.7.2 for iOS was released, where exclusive stickers and reactions appeared as part of the Telegram Premium subscription. The company itself has not yet officially announced anything about this. The subscription provides that users who have issued it will have access to additional functions. Premium stickers will not be visible to free users, they will see a banner offering to subscribe to Telegram Premium. No other details, including subscription costs and other benefits, are available yet.

Telegram’s subscription model appears to be similar to the one offered by Discord. There, users can get privileges in the form of customizable animated emoticons, advanced personalization options and other features. iOS users can already try out the Telegram 8.7.2 beta via TestFlight.
