Telephone Amico Italia, so that no one is left alone at Christmas

The Christmas that brings joy is the same one that can open chasms when you are fragile or experience a condition of vulnerability. This is why if for many Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year, for those who are alone or going through a moment of discomfort it is the most difficult. Being able to make a phone call and have someone to talk to, confide in, seek a moment of lightness is a great help.

And that’s what it has been guaranteeing for nine years Telephone Amico Italy together with its many volunteers: keep the telephone lines for listening and support active 24 hours a day all night long on Christmas and Boxing Day. A commitment to closeness that in 2021 gave an answer to over 640 people. A figure up by 26% compared to the previous Christmas, 2020, and 78% more than Christmas 2019. «Over the years, our non-stop Christmas service has proved to be fundamental for many people, who in these days experience everything the weight of one’s own problems and loneliness», he says Monica Petra, president by Telephone Amico Italy. «Thanks to our volunteers, Telephone Amico Italia’s telephones and WhatsApp and email services will be active continuously again this year from 10am on December 24th to midnight on December 26th».

The reference contacts are: the single national number 02 2327 2327 while for the WhatsApp friend service the number is 324 011 7252. You can also ask to be listened to via email by filling in an anonymous form on the site www.telefonoamico.it. “I’ve participated in the Christmas non-stop many times,” says Sylvie, a volunteer of Telefono Amico Italia. «In those days I spoke to many people who felt alone, some calls remain particularly impressed, they come from people hammered by life and are very understood. I am particularly struck by those who come from young and very young people. In recent years, the number of young people who contact us for problems with depression has increased: people who, at the age of only 30, feel that their life is meaningless. But at Christmas we also receive wonderful phone calls: they simply call us to thank us for being close to them in a particularly difficult moment”.
