Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, last night. Mr. Zelensky described to His Holiness the situation prevailing in his country after the invasion of Russian troops and thanked him for the support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to its suffering people.
In fact, he asked him to intensify his prayers for the struggle of the Ukrainians in order to defend the freedom and territorial integrity of their homeland.
For his part, the Ecumenical Patriarch assured the President of Ukraine of his solidarity and continued prayers “for a ceasefire and an immediate end to hostilities.”
In addition, he congratulated him “for his prosperous fighting spirit, the inspiration and support which he gives with his brave attitude to his people” and wished him from above the strength and endurance that peace will soon prevail in Ukraine, “her people which, like other peoples, received the Orthodox faith from the Church of Constantinople “.
