Teleworking and less heating recommend IEA and Commission for detoxification from Russian energy

The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the European Commission on Thursday issued a series of energy-saving tips to encourage European Union citizens to reduce rising energy bills on the one hand, and to help Europe from Russian energy.

In a press release issued on Thursday, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said “using less energy is a good way to help the Ukrainian people – and ourselves.”

Birol added that the proposed measures could “reduce the flow of money to the Russian military and help us orbit a cleaner and more sustainable planet.”

Among other things, the measures proposed by the IEA and the Commission include: turning off the heating, more limited use of air conditioners, working from home and traveling by public transport when possible. At the same time, they point out that governments could provide “financial incentives” to reduce the cost of transportation by public transport but also to install photovoltaic systems.

According to the press release, if these measures are implemented by all citizens of the European Union, then “it would be possible to save such an amount of oil that would be equivalent to 120 super tankers and enough gas to heat almost 20 million homes.”
