Temperatures in RS should exceed 40ºC by heat wave over the weekend

Rio Grande do Sul will have its hottest days of the year next Friday (14), Saturday (15) and Sunday (16) due to a strong heat wave that affects the entire southern region, but which mainly affects the state. . Thermometers can exceed 40ºC.

The highest temperature recorded in Porto Alegre this year by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) was 37ºC, on January 2. The city of Campo Bom, in the metropolitan region of the capital, currently has the highest temperature recorded in 2022 in the country: 41.1ºC.

An atmospheric blockade prevents the formation of cold fronts over the Gaucho territory, leaving the weather firm, open and with warm winds, according to Climatempo.

Combined with dry weather, the prefrontal heating effect will also be present. With the advance of a cold front next weekend, the wind will be blown from the north and northwest quadrant to the southern part of Brazil, favoring the increase in temperature.

However, on Sunday the cold front will reach the state, and will face a very hot and dry atmosphere, thus causing a thermal shock.

This will bring heavy rains, thunderstorms and wind gusts of up to 80 km/h and the possibility of hail, especially in the Campanha Gaúcha region, close to the border with Uruguay.

Other cities in Rio Grande do Sul have already exceeded 40ºC this year, on January 1: 40.9°C in Uruguaiana and 40.8°C in Quaraí. The strong heat wave will leave temperatures high in the second half of January, and numbers between 40ºC and 43ºC should be observed.
