Temperatures in the Southeast are expected to remain low until Tuesday, says meteorologist

The cold front that crosses the Southeast should lose strength from Wednesday (31), but a new mass of cold air that forms in the South should return to drop temperatures over the weekend, explains meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki, from Climatempo.

“It’s a temperature seesaw,” he says.

In the state of São Paulo, the current cold front should not cause rain, just a drizzle on the coast, in Vale do Paraíba, Vale do Ribeira and in the capital.

In the interior of the state and in parts of Minas Gerais, the forecast is for a small drop in temperature, which should bring relief in the thermal sensation. The expectation is for an improvement in air humidity in Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, where it should rain.

The cold air mass arrives in the Northeast from Wednesday, bringing medium to heavy rainfall on the coast of Bahia, Sergipe, Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte.

These states had rainfall levels above the climatological average of recent months. “There is a possibility for flooding and landslides, so you have to keep alert for these regions from Wednesday”, warns the meteorologist.

In the southern region of Brazil, there are chances of frost until tomorrow (30). With the weekend and the arrival of the new cold front, the probability of frosts increases again in all three states.

The beginning of spring, in September, promises rain showers, with a high risk of storms in the Southeast, South and Mato Grosso do Sul. The storms will be short-lived, but may include strong gusts of wind and hail.

Cold fronts are expected to continue advancing frequently into the southern half of the country at the start of the season. Afterwards, the tendency is for the temperature to rise again.

“It is a spring in which we are still under the influence of the La Niña phenomenon. The rains should be quite irregular in the southern region of Brazil, being able to be below the climatological average once again and with temperatures above normal”, says Sassaki.
