Ten corpses found in Mexico – The nine hung from a bridge

The bodies of 10 people were found in the state of Sakatekas, in central Mexico, on Thursday (18/11), nine of whom were hanging from a bridge, in a series of murders, which all seem to be related to the rivalry between gangs, according to local officials.

The tenth body was found on a nearby highway, according to a state Department of Public Safety official, who did not want to be named. The bodies were found in the town of Quautemok, it was announced by the local government, in a press release, APE-MPE reports.

The killings are likely linked to a criminal gang dispute operating in the area, according to the official. Research is ongoing.

Violence related to gang activity in some parts of Mexico has increased recently, including in the popular tourist areas of the state of Quintana Roo.

Permanent troops in Cancun

Yesterday, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said National Guard troops would be deployed permanently to Cancun and its environs following the escalation of violence, including the deaths of two tourists trapped in the Tulum resort.

As of September, 21,495 people had been killed this year in gang-related violence, an average of about 2,400 a month, according to the government.
