Issued in 24 states and the Federal District, the new National Identity Card (CIN) has already been issued to around 10 million Brazilians, according to a report by the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services.
The CIN will be the only document valid nationwide from 2032, according to Law 14,534, of January 11, 2023. Until that date, the state ID card remains valid.
The new document promises to modernize the Citizen Identification System in Brazil and establish complete data for government records, reduce the number of frauds and increase the security of Brazilian identification processes. So far, only Amapá and Roraima have not issued the document.
“We are working together with the states to expand the issuance of CIN, we recommend that citizens who are interested in having their card look for the service point in their state”, stated the Secretary of Digital Government, Rogério Mascarenhas.
What changes in the new identity
The new identity card adopts the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) as the single General Registry (RG) number throughout the country. The idea is to improve the efficiency of public administration of records by preventing each state of the federation from issuing a document with a different number.
The change foresees that the population’s life cycle will be monitored in the database, which can guide students about the National High School Exam (Enem), social benefits and even medical appointments.
By connecting to the Gov.br portal’s digital identity, platform users make their account gold level, ensuring the highest level of security, according to the government.
Rio Grande do Sul leads emissions
The people of Rio Grande do Sul are those who issued the most CINs – more than 1.2 million documents issued.
The Ministry of Management reports that it is working together with state authorities to reprint CINs for people affected by the floods. The first copy of the CIN is free of charge and can be issued until 2032.
