Ten people die and 22 are injured in bus accident in Bahia

At least 10 people died and 22 were injured this Thursday morning (11), after a tourist bus hit an embankment and rolled over on BR-101, in Teixeira de Freitas, in the extreme south of Bahia.

The vehicle had left the city of Rio de Janeiro and was destined for the tourist city of Porto Seguro, also in the extreme south of Bahia.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the bus is from the company RM Viagens e Turismo and had capacity for 44 passengers, but was occupied by 34 people at the time of the accident. The crash occurred at km 885 of the highway, around 4:30 am.

Eight people died at the scene. Subsequently, two died during treatment. One of the dead arrived in a very serious condition at the Teixeira de Freitas Municipal Hospital.

According to the hospital administration, among the other 22 injured, four were taken to the surgical suite and 18 are stabilized in the ward. In addition to the PRF, teams from the Bahia Fire Department, Samu, PM and Civil Police also took part in the accident.

In a statement, the company responsible for the trip stated that the cause of the accident has not yet been clarified. “At this delicate time, we are committed to providing all necessary support to those involved. RM Turismo is available to provide any information to assist in whatever is necessary to mitigate the impacts of this event”, says RM Turismo.
