Waiting for the tourists to return in style, never before does it make sense to return to Venice to enjoy its immutable charm. We are not at the levels of last summer when the city was practically deserted, but the shouting crowds – especially during the week – are a memory (unpleasant, for many Venetians). As in the rest of Italy, the premises have reopened with an outdoor space waiting for the indoor seats to be used. Among these, there are some restaurants – classy and suggestive – of the best hotels such as The Gritti Terrace (of The Gritti Palace), Oro Restaurant and Cip’s Club (Belmond Hotel Cipriani), the Settimo Cielo Rooftop (Palazzo Bauer) which is now guided from the Tuscan Cristiano Tomei.
How have reopened the best known and most popular places such as Glam Enrico Bartolini in Palazzo Venart, Venissa (environmental cuisine on the island of Mazzorbo) or Gran Caffé Quadri (at street level of the starry Quadri) that the Alajmo brothers have transformed into a refined ‘bacaro in piazza’. Furthermore, Massimiliano and Raffaele Alajmo confirmed the excellent experience of last summer with the Hostaria in Certosa, a splendid concept, open from breakfast to dinner, on the island of La Certosa.
They are all deserving places but they require a high or very high ticket. Instead, we went in search of those places loved by the Venetians where it is possible to have a pleasant experience at a fair price. Almost all of them are (quite) hidden in the calli and they do not have many tables outside, but they conquer for the kitchen: fish prevails, which in the Rialto market has one of the best expressions in Italy, in typical recipes: creamed cod, sardines in saor, fried moeche (this is the season best), bigoli in sauce and risotto with gò (goby). We have fun, we eat well, we drink good bottles (of white, preferably). Long live Venice.
