Ten suspects are investigated for embezzlement of public resources in SC

The Santa Catarina Civil Police concluded on Monday (31) the police inquiry referring to Operation omen which investigated a diversion scheme of public resources through social organizations and fraudulent contracts.

THE Operation omen It was unfolded in three phases, in all, 50 search and seizure warrants were fulfilled.

In the first phase there was the removal of four public office servers, as evidence of a criminal organization acting within the municipal structure were identified.

In the second phase, four preventive arrests were made, including from former municipal servants and private agents. Frauds were also revealed in bidding and bribery payments.

The third phase revealed that the deviations of resources were carried out through social entities that worked on projects aimed at children and adolescents in vulnerable situations. There was the removal of six servers.

As presented by the Civil Police, the inquiry concluded the indictment of the ten investigated for crimes of embezzlement and ideological falsehood. The criminal scheme was led by one of the investigated, and aimed to embody public appeal.

According to the investigation, the crime was in 2019 and was operated through an institute. It was later expanded to practically all social projects presented by civil society organizations.

According to delegate Patricia Cristina Fronza Vieira, who presided over the investigation, it was possible to see an increasing evolution of the structure of the criminal organization during the years.

“It can be said, therefore, that if the investigation omen had not dismantled and braked the group’s criminal activities at the beginning of 2024, the damage to public coffers would be significantly greater,” explains the delegate.
