Tennessee asks court to shut down mining farm over loud noise

The authorities of the US state of Tennessee accused the Red Dog mining campaign of violating zoning rules and exceeding the noise threshold.

Washington County Judge John Rambo has been ordered to hear the merits of the case and pass judgment on a lawsuit filed by the state of Tennessee against Red Dog and BrightRidge to shut down a mining farm.

According to the case file, the defendants are the local electric power company BrightRidge and the tenant of the industrial premises and facilities of Red Dog Technologies, which is engaged in cryptocurrency mining. The authorities believe that the round-the-clock noise from the farm is damaging the environment.

Consideration of the case begins on March 14 and may last three days. If Washington County succeeds in shutting down the mining farm, the case could set a dangerous precedent for the cryptocurrency industry in many other regions of the US. The work of mining companies often causes complaints from the local population.

On March 14, the European Parliament was scheduled to vote on a package of bills to regulate the crypto-currency industry, the Directive on Crypto Asset Markets (MiCA). The package again added a rule on limiting cryptocurrencies based on PoW consensus.
