Tens of thousands at Paris Pride, fearing the rise of the far-right in the elections

Tens of thousands of people are taking part in the big annual Paris Pride march in Paris today, with LGBTI rights groups expressing fears of increased discrimination if the far-right wins the parliamentary elections. The French go to the polls tomorrow for the first round of parliamentary elections, and opinion polls show the far-right National Alarm (RN) party has the best chance of winning first place and taking power in the French National Assembly. The second round will be held tomorrow Sunday July 7th. Interior Minister Géral Darmanen yesterday sent a letter to the police and local authorities asking for increased security measures around LGBTI community events, including Paris Pride, underlining that incidents of discrimination and “political and community competition” that could target such events.
