Tension in SYRIZA for the ‘physiognomy’ of the party in view of the Congress

The third conference of SYRIZA, scheduled for the end of February, may be in the air due to the uncertainty caused by the developments with the Omikron mutation and in view of the 5th wave, but in Koumoundourou they are continuing the preparations according to the schedule so far.

The other day, the Political Council chaired by Alexis Tsipras met for about seven hours with the sole object of issues of party interest and specifically the text of positions assigned to Aristides Baltas, a 35-page conference text that includes, among other things, the report of the last two years. 2019-2021.

The debate within the Institution was eextremely “lively” as there were objections from the side of the “progressive Alliance”, pasochists but also wider “presidents” for the content of the text presented by Mr. Baltas in the direction that the text is not “tight” and does not adequately reflect the ideological expansion of the party.

Baltas’s positions suffers exactly from this: the absence of clear positions for the ideological opening of the party and its enlargement and this they are called to resolve in the final conference text.

In short, Alexis Tsipras’s namesakes accuse those on the “right” of seeking to change SYRIZA’s physiognomy after the Congress to the most “centrist”.

Suggestions were also heard that the text Balta should not even be the “basis of the discussion” and should be rewritten from the beginning.

Finally, with the intervention of A. Tsipras (in the same direction was also secretary of SYRIZA Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, it was first decided that the text Balta remains the basis and a new committee (Baltas, Voutsis, Ragousis and Bistis) was assigned to “comb” it, incorporating the additions and markings of the other side.

The composition of the subcommittee is indicative: N. Voutsis represents the Umbrella, G. Ragousis the Pasokogens and N. Bistis the “Allies”.

This committee has a “deadline” of one week (theoretically) to reach the final composition of the text, as the PS will meet again next Wednesday, on the subject and the “statute”.
