Tensions soar with North Korea – South Korea, Japan and US hold summit

The governments of USAher Japan and her South Korea are finalizing details to hold a summit of their leaders in the middle of this month, Japan’s Kyodo news agency reported, citing unnamed Japanese government imgs.

According to the agency, the talks of the presidents Joe Biden and Yoon Seok-gil and the prime minister Fumio Kishida is a way for the three allies to show their solidarity and unity in the face of escalating tensions in the region over a series of ballistic missile tests, including intercontinental ballistic missiles, by the North Korea.

Kim Jong-un’s country has launched nearly 30 missiles in recent days, some of which set off warning systems in South Korea and Japan, which have called on residents to take shelter in fear of an imminent attack. One of the missiles fell 60 km off the coast of South Korea, prompting the country’s political leadership to speak of an “invasion”.

Meanwhile, South Korea and the US are holding joint military exercises in order to keep their forces ready after the climate with North Korea is tense.
