TerraMaster has introduced an updated version of the D8 Thunderbolt 3 Professional Direct Attached Storage (D8-331). It uses a new RAID controller to improve data transfer rates. According to the manufacturer’s estimate, the gain reaches 30%. More specifically, a configuration with eight SSDs combined in a RAID 0 array can achieve speeds of up to 2100 MB / s, while the original model was able to achieve speeds of up to 1600 MB / s.

As before, the storage has eight drive bays of 3.5 or 2.5 inches with SATA interface, but now their total capacity can be up to 144 TB (8 x 18 TB). With two Thunderbolt 3 ports, you can chain up to six drives. It is easy to calculate that the total volume in this case exceeds 800 TB.
Good cooling of drives is provided by an aluminum alloy case and two 90 mm fans. The fans can be turned on at maximum speed, select automatic mode when the speed depends on the temperature, or turned off.
The price of the updated version does not differ from the original one. It costs (without drives) $ 1,600. Sales have already started.
