It caused hundreds of injuries and a tsunami warning for southern Japan and the Philippines, which was subsequently issued. In the Philippines, the Seismological Service issued a warning to residents of coastal areas in several provinces urging them to move to higher altitude. Several small tsunami waves reached parts of Okinawa Prefecture in the south.
