Tesla accuses ex-employee of stealing secret data on AI supercomputer

Tesla is suing a former employee who allegedly illegally copied classified information about an artificial intelligence supercomputer project. Alexander Yatskov, a former heating engineer who was hired specifically for the Dojo project, saved data to personal devices and tried to hide his actions. In addition, Tesla accuses its ex-employee of lying about his work experience on his resume, often failing to cope with the tasks for which he was hired.

The Dojo project, which Elon Musk announced back in 2019, is associated with the development of a supercomputer based on artificial intelligence. It aims to help the company solve complex engineering problems, such as autonomous driving, by relying on data from Tesla drivers. In 2021, Musk presented the Tesla DJ1 chip, which should form the basis for the creation of a supercomputer, as well as a document outlining technical standards.

The company said in a statement that Yatskov was supposed to help develop supercomputer cooling systems, but violated a non-disclosure agreement. It says Tesla spent “thousands of hours of work” developing trade secrets that should never have been shared outside the company. This information is extremely valuable for Tesla and can be used by competitors to create similar supercomputer cooling systems in a relatively short time and at a lower cost.
