Tesla allowed to supply electric vehicles to Israel

Tesla has received the green light to import its electric vehicles to Israel. This indicates an imminent start to sales.

Tesla has long been considering entering the Israeli auto market. In the past, it was reported that Tesla was working on opening a service center and charging station in Tel Aviv. Then the automaker posted several relevant job advertisements. It was believed then that Israel was about to start accepting orders for Tesla electric vehicles, but this did not happen.

In addition, last year it was reported that Tesla was allegedly working on the opening of an R&D office in Israel. This information has never been officially confirmed. Only now, a year later, Tesla has received a license to import electric vehicles to Israel.

The source quoted the Israeli newspaper Globes:

“The American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla will start operating in 2021 as an official importer of cars to Israel. Sources told Globus that Tesla has received a license from the Department of Transportation to commercialize its vehicles, allowing it to begin full-scale imports with no volume restrictions. Until now, Tesla has operated in Israel as a “small importer”, allowing up to twenty vehicles to be imported, mainly for testing. This is the first time that a car manufacturer has been licensed to directly import and sell vehicles in Israel, rather than through a local dealer or in partnership with a dealer. ”

With the new permit, Tesla is expected to start accepting orders soon – primarily for the Model 3. After taxes and import duties, the price of this electric vehicle in Israel will start at $ 78,000. Deliveries will begin at the end of the year.
