While Tesla is under pressure in the US over an auto-pilot crash investigation involving the company’s 765,000 vehicles, the previously announced Tesla AI Day event took place strictly according to plan. During it, Elon Musk presented a new Tesla product – the humanoid robot Tesla Bot.
According to Musk, Tesla Bot will be friendly, as well as rather slow and weak, the latter being insurance against the robotic riot that science fiction writers love to describe in their books. Tesla Bot will receive an advanced artificial intelligence system that will be as sophisticated as the autopilot for the company’s electric vehicles. Tesla Bot is designed to perform various routine and sometimes risky tasks, while the robot will move around our world without the need to receive step-by-step instructions.
Tesla Bot will execute simple commands such as “Please take this bolt and attach it to the car with this wrench.” He will also be able to buy groceries for his owners and do various chores around the house. How the Tesla Bot will look like is shown in the picture above. According to Musk, the robot will be 172 cm high and weigh a little over 55 kilograms. The body will be made of lightweight materials, and on the face there will be a screen for displaying useful information.
The robot will be able to move at a speed of 8 kilometers per hour and will be able to carry loads weighing up to 20 kg. The head of Tesla has promised that the Tesla Bot prototype will appear next year.
