Tesla introduces a wind correction

Tesla electric cars can travel quite a distance on a single charge, but the on-board system’s prediction of that distance isn’t exactly accurate. According to the source, the manufacturer undertook to rectify the situation. Now the computer has begun to take wind, air density and many other data into account when calculating the cruising range on a single charge to make the estimate more accurate.

Recall that in 2018, some environmental factors were added to the calculation, including elevation changes, weather, etc. However, even now, as the movement progresses, the calculated indicator is noticeably corrected and not always for the better.

Software update 2022.8.2 adds crosswind, headwind, air density and humidity into account when calculating energy consumption. While these factors may only change the score by a few percent, for some trips it can make a big difference. Not to mention that a more accurate assessment gives the user psychological comfort.

In addition, the update includes several changes to the user interface. So far, it is only available in China, but non-simultaneous release of updates in different countries is a common Tesla practice.
