Tesla is just going, and Nikola has already launched mass production of electric trucks

The American startup Nikola, which is often compared to Tesla, has announced the start of mass production of its first all-electric truck. The assembly of the Nikola Tre electric tractor started this Monday, March 21.

Production of Nikola Tre is organized at the company’s plant in Coolidge, Arizona, USA. Deliveries of the electric truck Nikola plans to begin in the second quarter of 2022, that is, from April to June. More exact dates have not yet been disclosed. This year the company is going to produce from 300 to 500 trucks, and next year it plans to significantly increase production volumes to meet the growing demand.

It is worth noting that the market reacted positively to Nikola’s announcement of the start of production of an electric truck. The company’s shares rose about 4% shortly after the announcement.

Recall, Nikola Tre is a fully electric tractor for cargo transportation over short distances. It is driven by a 645 horsepower electric motor and is powered by a 753 kWh battery. This electric truck has a range of 350 miles (about 563 km) and an average charge time from 10% to 80% in just 120 minutes.

Nikola is not going to stop there and is already developing a new version of Tre with hydrogen fuel cells, thanks to which the electric tractor will be able to travel up to 800 km without recharging. The company promises to release this modification before the end of next year.
