Tesla is one of the most problematic electric cars. 226 problems per 100 new cars

Chip shortages and problems in the supply chain lead not only to higher prices for cars, but also to deterioration in their quality. Recently, JD Power released a study on 2022 model year vehicles that showed that the quality of new cars has decreased by 11% compared to last year. This is the worst result ever recorded by JD Power.

Electric vehicles show a significant drop in quality. In particular, Polestar is in last place and Tesla is seventh from bottom, continuing this trend. The latest survey found 226 problems per 100 new Tesla vehicles, and when considering all electric vehicles in general, there are 240 complaints per 100 vehicles. The JD Power study is based on data collected from 84,165 car owners and renters registered between November 2021 and February 2022. It includes 33 car brands and 189 different models.

Automotive software remains a constant consumer complaint. 6 out of 10 major problems are related to infotainment systems. Car owners want to see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the new models. At the same time, most survey participants experience difficulties connecting the system. They also note that the built-in voice recognition feature needs to be improved.

In addition to the drop in quality, the report also lists features that manufacturers have cut to deal with the shortage of chips. Among them are a decrease in the number of cars with advanced driver assistance functions, heated seats and parking systems, as well as one-key equipment and other cuts.

In terms of ranking the least problematic car manufacturers based on customer satisfaction, GM’s Buick ranked first. Second and third places, respectively, were taken by BMW and Hyundai.
