Experts of the analytical company TrendForce summed up the results of 2020 in the electric vehicle market. They took into account sales of both battery electric vehicles (BEV) and hybrid vehicles (PHEV). According to the published report, 2.9 million electric vehicles were sold in 2020. This is 43% more than in 2019. Sales are expected to reach 3.9 million units this year. Analysts are saying that the shortage of chips for automotive electronics is an uncertainty factor, reducing the accuracy of the forecast.

In the BEV segment, Tesla is the leader, focusing on promoting Model 3. Tesla’s share is 24.5%. Further strengthening of Tesla’s position should be facilitated by the promotion of Model Y – in particular, price cuts.
The second place with 6.6% is occupied by Volkswagen with the e-Golf and ID.3 models. In third place with $ 6.4 is BYD.
In the segment of hybrid electric vehicles, the first place is shared by BMW and Mercedes-Benz, occupying 13% each. They are followed by Volvo with 12%.
