Tesla receives new subpoena from regulator over Musk tweets in 2018

Tesla announced on Monday (25) that it received a second subpoena from the SEC, the watchdog of the US capital markets, about the tweets of its CEO, Elon Musk, in 2018, about the IPO of the company. electric car manufacturer.

Tesla said it received the subpoena on June 13. The regulator had initially subpoenaed the company in November about a possible breach of a settlement that required Musk’s tweets about important information involving the company to be scrutinized.

The November subpoena came days after Musk asked his Twitter followers if he should sell 10% of his Tesla stake to pay taxes on stock options.

The company said on Monday it would cooperate with government officials. The SEC declined to comment.

In 2018, Musk had settled a regulator lawsuit over his personal tweets by agreeing to allow the company’s lawyers to pre-approve tweets with relevant information about the company before they were published by him.

In June, Musk appealed a judge’s refusal to terminate this 2018 settlement with the Commission.

Musk is also facing a lawsuit from Twitter for backing out of its $44 billion purchase of the social network and is now gearing up for a legal confrontation in a trial set to begin in October.
