Tesla posted its highest monthly sales of Chinese vehicles since opening its factory in Shanghai in 2019 in June, data showed today, as the US carmaker ramped up production that had been hit by the city’s lockdown .
In particular, according to Reuters, Tesla sold 78,906 Chinese-made vehicles in June, including 968 in exports, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reported.
In May it had sold 32,165 vehicles while exporting 22,340.
Tesla also posted the highest monthly output at its Shanghai plant in June, according to the CPCA, but no specific figure was given.
COVID-19 restrictions in Shanghai had reduced Tesla’s production in the April-June quarter, while the company’s new factories in Berlin and Texas tried to ramp up output.
China’s passenger car sales totaled 1.97 million in June, up 22 percent from a year earlier, the CPCA said.
