Tesla has said it will turn Shanghai into “the world’s largest auto export hub.” All thanks to a new plant capable of producing 450,000 electric vehicles a year, which will be located next to the existing factory.

Gigafactory Shanghai has allowed Tesla to grow at an impressive rate during the pandemic while the rest of the auto industry has slowed down.
Last year, Elon Musk revealed that Gigafactory Shanghai had surpassed the Fremont factory in terms of production capacity and became Tesla’s new main export hub.
In a letter that Tesla sent to the authorities on May 1, the automaker thanks local authorities for their help in transporting more than 6,000 workers and carrying out disinfection work for the opening of Gigafactory Shanghai.
The city has reportedly provided buses to help transport employees to the workplace and work in a “closed system” with workers sleeping at the plant.
And in the same letter, Tesla mentioned a new plant being built next to the existing one. Model 3 and Model Y will be produced there. There is no clear data regarding Tesla’s expansion plans, but it seems that after the launch of the new plant, the company will be able to produce up to 1 million cars a year in Shanghai.
