Tesla will pay a huge fine for tainted air

It notes that 33 violations of air quality standards were found at the company’s Fremont plant in 2015, including “installing or modifying equipment without proper permits, failing to carry out required emission tests, failing to keep records and submitting information in a timely manner.”

The agency in charge confirms that violations have since been corrected and the Tesla plant is now compliant.

The parties agreed that the fine should be $ 1 million. That said, Tesla will pay $ 750,000 directly into the agency’s general operating fund and receive a $ 250,000 loan after it completes the installation of solar panels on roofs as part of a public health program.

The program “aims to improve air quality and health in the hardest-hit areas of the Bay,” the program said in a statement. The goal of this project is to reduce energy costs as well as reduce emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.
