Tesla’s Model Y leads new car sales in Europe in September

Tesla’s Model Y led new-vehicle sales in Europe last month, according to market research data, indicating the automaker’s mid-size SUV is fast becoming a preference in the region.

This is the first time that the SUV has led the ranking in Europe, JATO Dynamics said on Wednesday (26).

There were 29,367 Model Ys registered last month, up 227% from the same period last year.

The Supermini Peugeot 208 car was in second place and the Dacia Sandero, from Renault, in third in the September ranking.

The Model Y is one of Tesla’s most successful cars, which has produced 879,346 units so far in 2022 compared to 906,032 units all of last year.

The increase in Model Y sales underscores the effort by the electric vehicle company, the world’s most valuable automaker, to ramp up production at its factory in Berlin, Germany, which opened in March and produces 2,000 cars a week.

Earlier this month, Tesla warned of logistical challenges that would likely hamper vehicle deliveries in the short term.
