In Brazil, according to Unaids, 50,000 cases of HIV were diagnosed in 2021.
For the communicator, speaker and digital influencer, active in the health area, Lucas Raniel, this number “scares, but does not surprise.”
THE CNN Radio on CNN in Plural +, he drew attention to the fact that in the last 5 years there have been no prevention campaigns.
“We need incentives from the federal government to implement more campaigns, we have many prevention methods, such as condoms, but this is not the most important thing”, he said.
According to the influencer, “the most important prevention technology is testing.”
“It’s a form of prevention because if you treat it and make the virus undetectable, you won’t develop AIDS and it won’t transmit anymore, if you close the cycle in your organism”, he explained.
Raniel also said that the prep medication also prevents the virus from taking hold in case of exposure. As it is prescribed by a doctor, the specialist points out that it is able to “create a bond with health and self-care.”
Lucas has been living with HIV for 9 years and has been working with social media for 4 years.
“I noticed a lack of effective and realistic communication for those living with HIV, I started to say what I was experiencing, to work with less warlike and more humane communication.”
According to him, terminologies such as “seropositive” and “fighting against or combating AIDS” are outdated.
Raniel points out that it is important to focus on words like “prevention”, in addition to remembering that “HIV is the virus and AIDS is the advanced stage, it is important to leave warlike terms aside”.
