Tether, the issuer of the largest USDT stabelcoin capitalization, has blocked 11 crypto -adordos in Tron and Ethereum blockchains. About 6.45 million USDT were stored on these wallets, Misttrack blockchains reported a monitoring platform.
Freeze of assets was initiated at the request of law enforcement agencies in order to prevent illegal activities like laundering criminal proceeds and fraud, Misttrack explained. Tether herself did not reveal the causes and details of the locking of stablecoins.
Misttrack reminded that for Tether, blocking suspicious accounts is a common practice. The company on an ongoing basis cooperates with the international special services and regulators, including the US Department of Finance Control Office (OFAC), blocking at their request. Since 2014, Tether has froze more than $ 2.9 billion in USDT stabilcoins.
The previous large blocking occurred on July 24, when Tether at the request of the US authorities froze about 1.6 million USDT related to the financing of terrorism in the gas sector.
Since July, Tether has been one of the ten largest holders of the US sovereign debt. At the beginning of the month, the volume of Tether investment in the American government bonds exceeded $ 127 billion.
