Tether, the issuer of the largest USDT stablecin capitalization, froze $ 12.3 million on one of the Tron Cryptic Shows. The wallet seemed suspicious to specialists to combat illegal activities.
According to TRONSCAN blockchain analytics, freezing 12 369 162 USDT stabelcoins occurred at 9:15 Greenwich in one of the Tron network wallets. Tether did not publish an official statement, but, according to CointrackDaily, the frost was associated with suspicions of violation of the US foreign asset control sanctions (OFAC) related to the fight against illegal activities, including laundering and financing of terrorism (AML).
The operation to identify and block suspicious crypto acts was the result of the work of the T3 Financial Crime Unit (T3 FCU) expert group, created in August 2024, together with Tron and TRM Labs.
The head of the Department of International Investigations of TRM Labs, Chris Janczewski, said that radical measures will force attackers twice to think twice before using blockchains, such as TRON, for illegal operations. In the first six months of work, the T3 FCU froze about $ 126 million in the USDT related to various criminal activities and illegal transactions.
Earlier, Tether, the OKX crypto officer and the US Department of Justice, jointly froze $ 225 million in USDT, which were associated with a large international criminal syndicate for human trafficking in Southeast Asia.
