Texas school shooting victim’s husband dies 2 days after wife

The husband of Irma Garcia, one of the teachers at Robb Elementary, who was killed in the shooting on Tuesday (24) in Uvalde, Texas, in the United States, has died, according to a post by GoFundMe, a page created for fundraising. funds for the families of the 21 victims – two teachers and 19 children.

“Joe Garcia tragically died this morning [26] as a result of a medical emergency. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. I truly believe that Joe died of a broken heart. Losing the love of his life for over 25 years was too much for him to bear,” Debra Austin, cousin of Irma Garcia, said in the post.

On the school’s website, Irma Garcia’s biography says that she and her husband had four children. Joe had a heart attack at home and died in the hospital.

“She would literally do anything for anyone, no questions asked. She loved her children in the classroom and died trying to protect them.”

Garcia’s nephew, John Martinez, told the Washington Post that authorities informed the family that she helped protect the students from the gunfire.

“I want her to be remembered as someone who sacrificed her life and put her life on the line for her children,” Martinez said.

“They weren’t just his students. Those were her children, and she put her life on the line, she lost her life to protect them. That’s the kind of person she was.”

According to Garcia’s profile on the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District website, she has been an educator for 23 years. It was her fifth year of teaching with Eva Mireles, who was also tragically shot in elementary school.

An 18-year-old suspected of being the gunman who opened fire at the elementary school, killing several students and teachers, died in the attack, authorities said. Authorities identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos.

Robb Elementary School, where Ramos opened fire, is located in Uvalde, a town in the county of the same name, Texas, about 136 kilometers west of San Antonio and about 112 kilometers east of Del Rio. The suspect resided in this city and had attended the secondary school in Uvalde.

Before going armed to Robb Elementary School, Salvador Ramos is believed to have shot his grandmother, who was taken to a hospital in San Antonio.
