Th. Plevris: If necessary, new measures will be taken before the New Year

The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris said (ANT1) that regarding the taking of new measures to deal with the pandemic, we should wait today for the meeting of the committee of experts and its suggestion. The basic plan of the Government is any measures to be taken after the New Year and most likely this will happen, but if necessary they will be taken earlier.

The key to decision making is the state of the health system. At the moment the biggest problem is focused on Attica, where the occupancy rate in the outpatient beds is 53%, while the balance in the tickets – discharges from the hospitals is still positive.

Mr. Plevris said that regarding the cases of the last days, 50% belong to young people aged 18-39 and only 6% to citizens over 60 who have a higher chance of serious illness. For this reason, he appealed to young people in view of the holidays to be very careful in their contacts with their parents and grandparents.

He also clarified that at this stage there is no thought and no discussion to change anything in terms of planning for schools.

Returning to the measures that will take effect after the New Year, he said that although they have not been finalized yet, they will move in 3 pillars. When it comes to entertainment the problem seems not to be catering, but nightlife. There the measures that will be taken will most probably have to do with the schedule, the music and the standing or sitting ones.

There is also a problem in the stadiums where it seems that the fans are not disciplined in the measures and will be the second pillar of the measures, while the third pillar concerns telework in the Public and private sector.
