“The name that appears on the electricity bill does not matter in order to be credited for the returns of the additional charges”, stressed the Deputy Minister of Finance, Theodoros Skylakakis, speaking on SKAI TV.
He clarified that a necessary condition for the return is that the property has been declared as the first residence by the interested party.
Regarding the holiday homes, from now until June there will be a reduction in the increases of the electricity bills by 50% and from June onwards, they will also be included in the new system.
How to calculate the amount of the return
The retroactive compensation for the exorbitant electricity bills will amount to up to 600 euros and concerns bills issued from December 1, 2021 until May 31 this year.
Calculating the subsidy is very easy, anyone can do it.
For the period we have already mentioned, we add the amounts of the infamous adjustment clause and subtract from the sum all the discounts we have already received from the state and our provider. The subsidy is 60% of the difference with a maximum of € 600 and a minimum of € 18. The amount that will be deposited in our account is unsecured, tax free and can not be offset against other debts we may have. It will be at our disposal to use it where we want, no one will control where we spend the money.
Suppose a household has a total adjustment clause of € 1300 in the electricity bills from December to May and total discounts from the state and the provider add up to 500. The subsidy it will receive will be 60% of their difference, ie € 800 x60 % = 480 €
In order for a household to receive the money, it must have declared an annual family income of up to € 45,000. Attention, this income criterion is not bypassed, therefore even for couples who file separate tax returns, the income of each member is added up.
