Thailand is planning to allow crypto payments for tourists

The Thai authorities are preparing to allow tourists to pay cryptocurrency through the platforms tied to credit cards. This was reported by the local publications Bangkok Post and The Nation with reference to the deputy prime minister and Minister of Finance of the country Pichacha Chunhavajira.

According to his statement, the Ministry of Finance, together with the bank of Thailand, can soon allow tourists to bind their cryptocurrency assets to credit cards to make purchases in the country. At the same time, sellers, as usual, will receive Thai bats, often not even suspecting that cryptocurrency was used in the transaction.

This approach can be immediately adapted for Thailand, provided that there are auxiliary systems, ”said the Minister of Finance.

It is expected that the pilot project will be launched after the key infrastructure is created and regulatory checks are carried out. The high -ranking official did not name the exact dates.

In addition to resolving the use of cryptocurrencies in the field of tourism, Thailand also plans to reform his financial legislation. Pichai said that the government needs to unify the legal regulation of the traditional capital market and the sphere of digital assets, which are currently regulated by separate laws. In addition, the authorities need to revise the outdated restrictions for institutional investors within the “wider capital reform of the capital market”.

Thailand quite actively supports the introduction of digital assets. So, on May 13, the Ministry of Finance announced plans to release digital investment tokens in the amount of $ 150 million, which will allow retail investors to buy state bonds.
