The 12 km loop in Italy has been in the service of Porsche for 10 years

May marked 10 years since Porsche acquired the Nardo ring test site in southern Italy. It covers more than 700 hectares and includes more than 20 test tracks. Since the purchase, the German manufacturer has significantly transformed it by investing 80 million euros: it developed the infrastructure (workshops and security systems), completely renovated in 2019, installed fiber optic cables for fast data transmission, and also set up various traffic light capabilities to test automatic driving.

The company also installed powerful charging stations throughout the range, which laid the foundation for future electric vehicles. In addition, Porsche has created additional infrastructure for testing connected cars and their automated functions, including the need for a private 5G network.

This test site is quite famous among motorists. In 2001, Volkswagen even introduced the W12 Nardo concept car – it is possible that in honor of this technical center.
