The 20,000 pebbles in memory of the victims of the coronavirus in Hungary

Next to each other, 20,000 pebbles were placed in the Hungarian capital, in memory of the victims of the new coronavirus, at a time when the Central European country is currently setting a record death toll.

“More than 20,000 of our compatriots lost their lives in the epidemic and it is a personal, family but also national tragedy,” the opposition party that took the initiative wrote on its Facebook account today.

THE Hungary, which has a population of 9.8 million, has the highest death rate in the world, with 33 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

The pebbles, which were tied together with a ribbon in the colors of the Hungarian flag, were placed on Margarita Island, in the heart of Budapest, at the initiative of the newly formed UVNP party.

Each of them listed the age of the deceased as well as a identification number, as broadcast by the French Agency and rebroadcast by the Athenian News Agency.

The number of stones will increase depending on the evolution of the pandemic.

Similar initiatives have already been taken in Prague and London.
